Hughes was a native of Newcastle upon Tyne. A member of the Royal Artillery he was taken prisoner during the North Africa Campaign. He was held in Stalag IV-F which was based in Hartmannsdorf, Saxony. The camp was liberated or closed in March 1945. Hughes survived the war and returned to Newcastle.
The medal issue box is named to Mr R V Hughes 9 Sanderson Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland. The group was missing the 1939 to 45 Star when I purchased it, so I have added one. With it being a unnamed medal I don't feel its an issue. I just always like to inform people!
Condition = EF++ ( wax packets for the medals and original ribbons)
