Defence of Ladysmith grouping to Captain J H Luxton AOC
John Henry Luxton, was born in Devonport in 1872.
A member of the Army Ordnance Corps, he served in South Africa during the second Boer War, as a Corporal and later Sergeant.
Present at the Defence of Ladysmith, he was awarded the Queens South Africa Medal with the aforementioned bar and Orange Free State and Transvaal. Also awarded the Kings South Africa Medal with bars 1901 and
Post Boer War he remained in the Army and was awarded a Long Service Good Conduct Medal while serving a Conductor. Based in Malta at the time of the 1911 census, he remained there during the Great War, serving as an Acting Captain with the AOC.
Service in Malta means the British War Medal is his sole entitlement for WW1, confirmed on Roll and card.
