GVI Rocket Apparatus medal to Walter Boa / Submariner taken prisoner during WW2
Walter Boa was born in Northumberland in 1912. He served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War aboard HMS Cachalot, a submarine. He was serving with her when she sank U-51 by torpedo and was later taken prisoner in 1941 when she was rammed and sunk by an Italian Ship. Boa was repatriated back to the UK in 1943 as part of an exchange for Italian POWs. Awarded the LSGC in 1949 while serving as Chief Storeman at HMS Forth a Submarine depot.
Walter died in 1965. An interesting research project.
